Otra Rota was born in 2019 in the student hangouts of Patras as a guitar and lute duo. The instruments became the tools and the friends became the crew in a journey with only the present as the destination. The pirate flag with the lute guitar became a trademark and the occasional collaborations with various friends musicians on stage gave the first title of this project: the one night band.
Four years later, in 2023, with dozens of performances in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Ioannina, Kalavrita, Pyrgos, Kefalonia, Chios, Koufonisia, Kimolos and Chania, the band finally got a name and a substance.
The two founding members are on vocals and strings, Vassilis Georgios on guitar and Dimitris Karamanis on lute. Marios Adiavastos is on percussion, while Dionysis and Leonidas Karamanis are on violin and brass respectively. Occasionally, dear friends and collaborators complete the set with saxophones, clarinets, drums, ballet, rum etc.
Otra Rota's art and traditional repertoire unites them in a huge embrace with an audience that is now typical for its pulse and energy, always setting up unique feasts from the stages to the streets!
The repertoire never lacks songs by renowned artists that touch on socio-political issues and are problematic, as there is a belief that the coexistence of people through music paves the way for the collective awareness and sensitization that is always necessary and therapeutic for each and every one of our fellow human beings.
At the same time Otra Rota are preparing their first album entitled 'Insomnia' with music and lyrics by Vassilis Georgas with songs that they incorporate in their program!
